Welcome to The Falstaff’s latest newsletter. It’s been a busy week here in the city, as yesterday the new Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, was enthroned in the cathedral. We weren’t invited to the ceremony itself, but were able to catch the odd snippet from the hotel!
If you are planning on staying at The Falstaff this spring, our latest tip for an unusual place to visit is Reculver Country Park just a short drive from the town – a special protection area for wildlife along an undeveloped stretch of Kent coast. At the heart of the park sits the beautiful Reculver Towers, a 12th century monument which once comprised part of a church – the remains of a Roman ‘Saxon Shore’ fort and a Saxon monastery are also on the site. It is a lovely place to go for a walk; very evocative and peaceful.
Should you be more a fan of some vroom vroom, this Mayday bank holiday car lovers will descend upon the Merton Vintage Show – this is the biggest event of its kind in Kent, and with a serious collection of over 600 vehicles from yester-year. The beer tent and food stalls will be a welcome distraction if you plan to visit with family members who aren’t such fans of the subject matter! More on the the event website.
